Upgraded facility opens in McBride

RCF Program

Improved used oil recycling facility provides McBride residents with an easy, free and environmentally friendly way to recycle materials

We are very excited to share that the McBride Transfer Station located at 500 NW Frontage Rd., McBride, has upgraded its used oil recycling collection facility. The newly installed infrastructure will provide the residents of McBride, and in the surrounding areas, with an easy, free and eco-friendly way to recycle their used oil and antifreeze materials.

The Return Collection Facility (RCF) infrastructure grant that the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George received from BCUOMA provided the McBride Transfer Station with a 10 foot modified sea container with a 2,200 litre tank to replace the outdated collection infrastructure. This new RCF will facilitate the responsible collection and management of used oil, antifreeze, filters and containers.

“BCUOMA’s goal is to ensure that there are sufficient recycling collection facilities across British Columbia for DIY consumers to take back their used oil and antifreeze materials, and provide recycling depots with the opportunity to upgrade their outdated infrastructure,” said David Lawes, CEO, BC Used Oil Management Association. “The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George was proactive in reaching out to BCUOMA and applying for a RCF infrastructure grant to upgrade the McBride Transfer station with an environmentally safe, free, and convenient used oil recycling depot.”

The RCF infrastructure grant program requires the responsible environmental handling, collection, transportation, storage, processing and recycling of used oil and antifreeze material using economic, efficient and environmentally acceptable options.

BCUOMA continues to look for opportunities to upgrade and improve recycling facility locations across the province in order to provide British Columbians with greater accessibility to convenient and free used oil recycling centres. BCUOMA has also created more signage at BC used oil recycling centres that explains how easy it is to recycle materials properly.
